The BRS Opt-in Course is mandatory for BRS eligible service members. Service members can take the course on Joint knowledge online or their Service’s learning management platform. Additionally, service members can take a non-ID enabled course via Military OneSource—but must turn in the completion certificate to their training manager. This mandatory course aids eligible active, National Guard and Reserve service members in understanding and comparing the legacy (High-3) and Blended Retirement Systems. Service members can use the knowledge gained from this course combined with their personal assessment of career goals and finances, the DoD BRS Comparison Calculator and eTutorial, installation Personal Financial Managers and counselors or other trusted agents, to decide which retirement system is best for them.
