Though current military compensation is equal to or exceeds the private sector, military families may still encounter challenges during these difficult economic times. Several benefits are available to assist Service members, including the Family Supplemental Subsistence Allowance (FSSA) Program, detailed here. The combined effect of the household income level and household size of a Service member shall determine the member's eligibility under the FSSA Program. A member may be eligible for FSSA only if the member is serving outside the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, or Guam. Members with large families & qualifying income may be eligible for monthly entitlements through the FSSA.
For questions about this program or any other assistance, contact your family support center, command, or community services financial management counselors. The FSSA Application, DD Form 2857 is available on the WHS DoD Forms website - visit their site.
